Inked Horizon

Inked Horizon draws inspiration from Domain 3’s history as an IBM typewriter manufacturing facility. Referencing the fluid lines of typewriter ribbon and the warm hues of an Austin sunset, the suspended sculpture brings a new layer of color, movement, and identity to the building’s reimagined lobby.

Borrowing materials and hardware from the climbing world, the installation transforms utilitarian paracord into a delicate architectural gesture. As visitors move through the lobby, overlapping strands create changing layers of color and texture—a contemporary expression of the building’s industrial past and renewed future.

Hundreds of individual paracord strands shift from yellow and orange to deep red, creating a lightweight composition that appears to float overhead. Each strand was individually cut, finished, and tensioned across powder-coated stainless steel supports.
