DALLAS, TX – We created a floating, shimmering sculpture for the historic Marshall Fields Building at the Galleria Dallas, which is seen by millions of visitors every year.
Originally designed by architect Philip Johnson in 1979, the curved limestone walls and three-story arched entry portal of the Marshall Fields Building are Dallas landmarks. With the opening of the Belk flagship store, we were hired to give new presence to the exterior structure. Using hundreds of folded and shaped aluminum blades to construct an organic, non-repeating pattern, we molded a floating, shimmering sculpture that contrasts the stone walls and creates a specular display that changes throughout the day and night. The sculpture conjures images of the waterfalls that seep through natural limestone formations across the Texas Hill Country.
